Jac Berrocal - MDLV (2014)

Einstürzende Neubauten i Miles Davis u istom tijelu.

"A real event: Jac Berrocal has not released disc for 20 years. The legendary French trumpeter is back with its special atmosphere and feeling. Lot of guests too.
Jacques "Jac" Berrocal (born 22 October 1946, Saint-Jean d'Angély) is a French trumpeter, singer and composer. He has been active since the 1970s in the independent and avant-garde music scene (he recorded/played with Steven Stapleton/Nurse With Wound and collaborated with Sunny Murray, Pascal Comelade, MKB (F. J. Ossang), James Chance, Alan Shorter, Bernard Vitet, Lol Coxhill, Michel Portal, Lizzy Mercier Descloux)."
He has released a few important albums, mainly on his own label d'Avantage. He also founded and performed in the group Catalogue. Berrocal has appeared too in several films. In 2011, we released an unique collaboration between him, Ghedalia Tazartès and David Fenech (Superdisque CD/LP SR321).

Fatal Encounters is the indispensable Jacques Berrocal compilation, featuring not only extracts from the French trumpeter's work dating from as far back as 1971, before he recorded the mythic Musiq Musik for Futura Records, but also from his later solo albums Parallèles (including the celebrated "Rock'n Roll Station" with Vince Taylor), Catalogue, Hotel Hotel, and La Nuit Est au Courant, plus rare and hard to find material previously only available on limited-edition collector's items. Especially worthy of mention is poet Jacques Doyen's intense reading of Ginsberg ("Sacre") and the haunted/haunting version of "Lili Marleen" originally released as a 7" on Tago Mago. Describing Berrocal as just a trumpeter hardly does him justice, and his work has continually straddled genres, mixing elements of free jazz, performance art, cold wave, and straight-ahead rock & roll. From the cod Dixieland of "Rideau" to the riotous raw punk power of the Catalogue trio (with Gilbert Artman on drums and Jean-François Pauvros on guitar, not to be confused with the Berrocal album of the same name), from the surrealism of his collaborations with Nurse With Wound's Steven Stapleton to the suave sexy "Japan's Garden," there's enough material on this excellent compilation to keep you entertained for years.- allmusic.com
